Bangkok, Thailand

Connectivity
Everywhere we went the Wifi was quite poor and slow. We did however manage to pick up local sim cards with a 4GB bundle at the airport for about 20EUR.

Shopping
We stayed in the Sukhumvit area. It is fantastic with many huge shopping centres walking distance. A lot of these shopping centres are interconnected, and sometimes you don’t know when you leave the one, and enter the next one.

The ones we enjoyed most were:
Central World (Massive Shopping Centre)
Terminal 21 – Shopping centre with each floor decorated to a different city.

You can easily spend half a day per shopping centre, and there is probably 20 or 30 in that one looong street.

Temples
There are loads of Temples in Bangkok. Our favorites were:
Wat Pho
Grand palace – Huge place, and you have to dress up to cover your knees to go in. (They have the clothes there for you to borrow)
Temple of dawn – Other side of the water, so you can take the ferry.
Wat Chanasongkram – Smaller, and less touristic.

Other todos
Baiyoke Sky Hotel Observation Deck – You can go there to the 84th Floor for stunning view. There are also restaurants and bars.
Sea Life – Quite nice.
Should I worry about the heat? No, it’s part of the experience.
Swimming – A lot of hotels have a pool, with cool views of the city.

Getting Around
Metro – Easy, just buy a ticket at a machine at the station.
Skytrain – Nice to use to get somewhere quickly without walking. Ticket at the station.
Airport Link – You can take the airport link to station X (about 20 minutes) and then switch to the Skytrain to go straight to the centre.
Boat – On the river they have some bigger boats / ferries however we mostly enjoyed the smaller ones on the channels. I would say this is a MUST do. Just get on, and someone will come around for you to pay.
Taxi – Don’t use the taxi from the airport. Rather use the Skytrain.
Bus – They have these old non-airconed and very cheap busses. You’ll immediately spot them as the busses who’s windows are rolled down. Very cool experience. Just get on, and someone will come around for you to pay.
Uber – We didn’t use it, but a good backup to know that Bangkok have Uber.

Food
You can get a chicken, rice and egg meal and the mcdonalds. Quite strange, and interesting to try.
Inside “Central World shopping centre” there is a “creamery”called Cold Stone Creamery with the most amazing ice cream.
Try the street food, but make sure it’s fried in front of you!
